The collision on the busy Red Line during rush-hour has injured dozens of people, and killed at least six. Read more on the details of the train crash and see video below. The crash that occured during rush hour is the first fatal crash for the Metro train system since 1982. Two crowded trains collided on Washington’s subway system and killed at least six people this evening and injured dozens, with commuters trapped in a stack of twisted rail cars that rescuers were still searching hours later. Witnesses say a train near the Ft. Totten station on the Metro’s busy Red Line was rear-ended by another train, which climbed atop the stopped cars ahead of it, leaving a two-level snarl of debris. The operator of the approaching train, whose name was not immediately released, was among the dead, authorities said. Rescue workers propped up ladders to help survivors escape from the upper train cars. Seats from the smashed cars spilled out onto the track. D.C. Fire Chief Dennis L. Rubin said rescuers treated 70 people at the scene in the first two hours, including the six who died. “This is the deadliest incident in the history of Metro,” said Washington City Councilman Jim Graham. He described the wreckage with a single word: “Horror.” The accident occurred on a curved section of track but during clear weather, on the subway system’s most heavily used line. The crash happened around 5 p.m. Jervis Bryant, a Prince George’s County teacher, said he heard the collision from a house 2 1/2 blocks away and got to the scene within five minutes. “We saw the folks banging on the windows trying to get out,” he said, referring to the second train. The United States has positioned additonal missile defenses around Hawaii as a precaution against a possible North Korean missile launch. Read more on the possible missile towards Hawaii below. The U.S. is getting ready for the possible missile launch towards Hawaii, which sounds very scary and would be a huge slap in the face to the United States. “We do have some concerns if they were to launch a missile to the west in the direction of Hawaii,” Gates said. Gates told reporters at the Pentagon he has sent the military’s ground-based mobile missile system to Hawaii, and positioned a radar system nearby. Together the systems theoretically could detect and shoot down a North Korean missile if it came to that. “Without telegraphing what we will do, I would just say … we are in a good position, should it become necessary, to protect Americans and American territory,” Gates said. A Japanese newspaper reported on Thursday that North Korea might fire its most advanced ballistic missile toward Hawaii around the Fourth of July holiday.  The new missile launch would not be taken lightly to the international community, that punished North Korea with new U.N. sanctions for conducting a second nuclear test on May 25 in defiance of a United Nations ban. North Korea spurned the U.N. Security Council resolution with threats of war and even pledging to expand its nuclear bomb-making program.  The missile being made ready is believed to be a Taepodong-2 with a range of up to 4,000 miles. It reportedly would be launched from North Korea’s Dongchang-ni site on the northwestern coast near July 4, Independence Day in U.S., the Yomiuri newspaper said.

Hurricane Ike ravaged Galveston, Texas early Saturday, battering the coast with driving rain and huge wind gusts as residents that stayed behind, realized they should have evacuated. These stragglers made futile calls for rescue. So far the damage from Hurricane Ike is not known. Authorities are not certain just how many people may have perished as the worst of Ike was passing over the Houston-Galveston area. But even before daylight arrived, damage was extensive. Thousands of homes and buildings were flooded, and 2.9 million people lost power. Everyone’s greatest fear was the tens of thousands of people that defied the evacuation orders, that would need to be rescued from flooded homes. Early morning found emergency officials taking calls for help from residents along the coast who remained behind and were trapped in their homes. Gov. Rick Perry mobilized 7,500 National Guard troops and his homeland security chief, Steve McGraw, said rescues would start as soon as crews could safely go out. Officials in Galveston, on a vulnerable barrier island, said an estimated 40% of the city’s 57,000 residents ignored the evacuation orders. “The unfortunate truth is we’re going to have to go in … and put our people in the tough situation to save people who did not choose wisely. We’ll probably do the largest search-and-rescue operation that’s ever been conducted in the state of Texas,” said Andrew Barlow, spokesman for Governor Rick Perry. The eye of the strong, category two storm powered ashore just after 3am local time. Officials had warned that as many as 100,000 homes could be smashed by the wall of water expected to hit the coast. “The size, strength and current path of the storm have the potential to produce catastrophic — let me repeat that — catastrophic effects and to threaten the lives and safety of citizens along the Texas coast and the western part of Louisiana,” Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said. As the front of the storm moved into Galveston, fire crews rescued nearly 300 people who changed their minds and fled at the last minute, wading through floodwaters carrying clothes and other possessions. “We don’t know what we are going to find. We hope we will find the people who are left here alive and well,” Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas said. “We are keeping our fingers crossed all the people who stayed on Galveston Island managed to survive this.” Let’s hope the people that stayed behind managed to survive Hurricane Ike. As Tropical Storm Gustav is being tracked into the Gulf of Mexico, now Tropical Storm Hanna has formed in the Atlantic, off the northern Leeward Islands, and may be heading towards the East Coast? Will Hanna become the next Katrina? Damn, let’s hope not!   Click Thumbnails for Larger Images Around 11 a.m. the storm had 40 mph winds and is heading east at around 12 mph. The National Weather Service’s forecast placed Hanna as a hurricane somewhere north of the Bahamas by Tuesday, and off the coast of Florida, Georgia, or the Carolinas. Scary! “Tropical Depression 8″ is becoming Tropical Storm Hannah as it forms off of the coast of the northern Leeward Islands on Thursday. Originally entitled “Tropical Depression 8″, Hannah had top sustained winds near 40 mph Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center. Hannah is the eighth tropical storm in the Atlantic this year, and will produce heavy rainfall in parts of the Leeward Islands. Hannah has joined Tropical Storm Gustav as both terrorize the Caribbean Islands. The scary part is that Hannah is already the size of Gustav. Forecasters believe both will soon become hurricanes. Thus far, 23 people have already died from Tropical Storm Gustav, and it is expected to be a Category 3 hurricane, which was the level that Hurricane Katrina was when it hit New Orleans in 2005. The coast of South Carolina was given a 5 percent change for winds of at least 39 mph, while the Florida/Georgia coast has a 10 to 20 percent chance. Of course Gustav and the atmospheric system could drastically alter Tropical Storm Hannah. Let’s hope these storms don’t develop into devastating hurricanes! Images/Source: news

Chupucabra, also spelled chupacabra, the “goatsucker” was recently spotted in Texas and recorded on a dash cam.   The strange creature, referred to as the chupacabra or “goatsucker” has been spotted in Quero, TX. Deputies were checking fence lines and saw the creature just before sundown, and turned on their dash cam. You can also see video with audio at this link on CNN here. See video below:

Early Sunday morning, a shot was fired inside an Atlanta club where Jermaine Dupri was holding a party attended by several celebrities. According to reports, there was only one minor injury, a gunshot wound to the arm sustained by a bouncer, and no fatalities. Musicians and celebrities including Diddy, Nelly, Bow Wow, Usher, Nia Long and Gabrielle Union were in attendance, with some escorted quickly out by their bodyguards after the shooting. Others were forced to stay inside during an hour and a half investigation by police. The shooting is thought to have occurred after angry club guests were being double-charged by staff to gain access to the VIP roped-off area containing the celebrities. A shoving match ensued, people were kicked out, and the shot was fired. There was a lot of confusion after the incident and many were not sure what had happened. A DJ thought the shot was just a champagne bottle being opened. While some people got out quickly afterwards, some celebrities and members of the crowd were not so lucky. Police came and shut everyone up inside for an hour and a half while they tried to work out the details:

The welcome to Atlanta party had J.D., Diddy, Usher, Nelly, Bow Wow, Gabrielle Union, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Larenz Tate, Da Brat, Lisa Raye, several NBA players and more in the building. Everything was going great until shots went off inside the club. Things were crazy, J.D., Usher, Diddy, Nelly, Gabrielle Union, Nia Long, etc. were all in the same section when tragedy occurred right after this picture. I didn’t actually hear a shot go off but seen people just started ducking. First it started on the right side of V.I.P. then it moved over to the left. Then all the celebs ducked and dipped with the quickness but some couldn’t get off the stage. I wasn’t sure what the hell happened, the DJ made an announcement it wasn’t a gun shot, and said the speaker or a bottle poppin had made the the noise. The person I drove with was stuck in side. Cops shut down the entire club and no one could leave for about a hour and half. That included all the celebrities in attendance. So I was just stuck outside waiting for them to let people out. People inside were panicking trying to escape, it was a complete MESS! Even all the celebs were stuck inside until the cops gave them clearance.

[From Real Talk NY] TMZ makes it sound like Diddy, Usher, Gabrielle Union and Larenz Tate got out after the shooting and weren’t stuck inside as the cops investigated. Diddy was carried out by his bodyguards as he clutched a bottle of champagne. Jermaine Dupri has put out a statement about the shooting, saying “I’m sad this incident happened because it interrupted a beautiful and loving party. I’m happy none of my people or friends got hurt. Montauk monster? A freaky unidentified creature was supposedly washed ashore on a Long Island beach.   This strange creature being called the Montauk Monster is somewhat puzzling. Nobody knows whether it’s a hoax, mad science from a nearby government laboratory, or some kind of publicity stunt. Tons of theories are swirling, one source says possibly a turtle that lost its shell. Gawker first reported the story and said, “A tipster says there is a government animal testing facility very close by in Long Island, but unless the government is trying to design horrible Montauk monsters that will eat IED’s and fart fire at bad Iraqis, we’re not sure why they would create such an unthinkable beast. Our guess is that it’s viral marketing for something.” Some people suggested it was a promotion tied to Cartoon Network, though this sight would surely scare the crap out of children. Reports are coming in stating that several witnesses actually saw the dead creature on the beach. Four government scientists stated it was nothing they had ever seen before. Princess Chunk, the 44-pound stray cat found wandering in Camden County, New Jersey, will make her national TV debut Thursday morning on “Live with Regis and Kelly.”   Holy crap! How does someone lose a 44 lb cat? The 44 lb. kitty was found waddling around Saturday without a collar in Voorhees. The Camden County Animal Shelter hope to find Princess Chunk a good home. “She’s built like a quarterback,” said Deborah Wright, a shelter volunteer and current foster owner of the kitty. “I mean, how do you lose a 44-pound cat?!” Shelter officials named the fat kitty cat “Princess Chunk.” The largest tabby on record weighed 46 pounds, 15 ounces. That cat, who lived in Australia, died in the 1980s. The Guinness World Records has since dropped the category, fearing cat owners might harm their animals in an attempt to break the record. Princess Chunk’s owner has until Saturday to reclaim her. After that, Princess Chunk will be eligible for adoption. Despite all the media attention surrounding the large cat, no one has come forward to claim her. The animal shelter has already received five or six adoption applications for the chunky cat, and the shelter says she will be adopted out, they do not euthanize unclaimed pets. The 44 lb cat, Princess Chunk, will be on “Live with Regis and Kelly” tomorrow, as they are hoping to find her owner or at least a good home. Images/Source: news

A young boy in Texas, manages to slip out of his daycare, walks to the store and ends up at a local Hooters.   Police are investigating how a young boy managed to sneak away from a Denton, Texas daycare unnoticed, crossed two busy roads, and ended up a half-mile away at a Hooters restaurant. The five-year-old boy walked away from the Imagination Station child care business, near Golden Triangle Mall in Denton, Texas. The young boy crossed busy Dallas Drive and went to a RaceTrac gas station to buy a soft drink and snacks, walking in 100 degree heat! He left the gas station and wound up at a Hooters restaurant, a half-mile away. The Hooters restaurant’s general manager Brian Mason and his employees spotted the child shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday. “I was pretty impressed that he made it that way without getting hurt,” Mason said. “He let us know that he looked both ways before crossing the road, stopped in the middle and then crossed again.” With no chaperone for the boy in sight, Mason called police. “We kept him in the back coloring and kept him pretty occupied until the police showed up,” he said. Deborah Pugh, the day care owner, said the boy had asked to go to the bathroom before he disappeared. When his father arrived minutes later to pick up the child, workers said they realized the boy was missing. Pugh said she believes he got out through a fire exit, which, by law, must remain unlocked. “We are looking into the timeline,” said Denton police spokesman Jim Bryan, “but I think the greater concern is the distance that this child went and the timeframe that he was not in the day care.” Despite what happened, some parents told News 8 they still trust the Imagination Station. “She [Pugh] is a caring woman and I like how she takes the children,” said Grace Shotayo, one of the parents. “She really cares for them.” Imagination Station is subject to state inspection every three to five months. According to records, the day care has been cited for at least eight violations since 2006. Two of the citations were for improper supervision; the most recent one was issued in April. Pugh said this is the first time a child has disappeared while in her care since she opened Imagination Station 13 years ago. She said she plans to install an alarm at the emergency exit, and is now escorting all children to the bathroom. The five-year-old has not been back to the day care since the incident. State child care licensing workers and police investigators are looking into the case to determine whether they will take action against the center and its owner. Crazy huh?
