After a very brief two day trial, Amy Winehouse has been acquitted of the assault charges against her. The judge didn’t necessarily believe Amy’s defense that
she didn’t punch dancer Sherene Flash but merely pushed her away – but said he couldn’t rule it out since it very well could have been an accident. Amy was also drunk off her ass at the time, which could have contributed to it being an accident. In the U.S. court system she would still have been responsible for her actions, but I’m not sure if that’s the case in the U.K. Either way, Amy’s explanation was plausible, and she’s off the hook.
A refurbished Amy Winehouse is officially off the hook for punching a fan who wanted a picture with her.
Today in London, the judge found Amy not guilty on assault charges — for the incident that happened after a charity ball last September. While prosecutors claimed the hit was deliberate, Winehouse says she felt intimidated by the drunken fan, but was too short to actually smack the girl in the face.
Winehouse, who showed up to court smokin’ a ciggy, was free to go, go, go.

Amy had to miss her grandmother’s funeral due to the trial. Her 86-year-old maternal grandmother, Esther, passed away after a long fight with Alzheimer’s. According to Radar, Amy joined her family right after the trial let out. They also say that, despite all the drama, Amy is very close with her mom’s family.
Singer Amy Winehouse missed her grandmother’s funeral because she was on trial in London for allegedly assaulting a fan, RadarOnline.com can reveal.
While the singer was in court, she was unable to mourn at the graveside, but after the hearing was over, she joined family and friends to pay her respects.
Winehouse, 25, was said to be devastated by the death of her 86-year-old grandmother Esther, who had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and lived in a care home.
The ‘Back To Black’ singer was determined to attend Shiva – the week long mourning in the Jewish faith – to support her grieving mom Janis Winehouse.
“The family enjoys a close bond, and Amy is very much at the center of it,” revealed Janis. “She couldn’t interrupt the court case, but was determined to be with me and her relatives at the first opportunity.
Amy is as close to them as they are to her, and it was wonderful seeing her in the garden with all her family and cousins, enjoying their company, the way it has always been.”
The assault case against the singer was dismissed Friday after Judge Timothy Workman said he couldn’t be sure the incident was not an accident after listening to evidence.

Yesterday I mentioned (rather sarcastically) that Amy hasn’t punched anyone in
months. With most people that’s nothing exceptional, but with her, that’s a big deal. Amy went through a long punching/headbutting/kicking phase last spring and summer. You know how toddlers go through a hitting phase? Amy relived hers twenty-some years later. Most toddlers aren’t drunk off their asses and beating up cab drivers, but hey, in Amy’s case you hit who’s around you. She seems to be making some progress on that front (if not others) – hopefully this is one particular issue she can wrap up now.

Amy Winehouse took the stand in her defense today during her assault trial in London. Last year she
punched a dancer, Sherene Flash, who’d asked to take a photo with her at the Berkeley Square charity summer ball. During her testimony, Amy essentially claimed that Flash was all up in her grill. But she put it the British way, noting, “‘She lent down all over me. She had her face down by me.’” Nothing she said sounded all that convincing or explained why she reacted with a punch – which she essentially denied was even a punch.
By the same measure, said Winehouse, Flash “was pretty much leaning on me. She’s a big girl. She was being overly presumptuous. I’m not Mickey Mouse. I’m a human being.”… In the dressing room area backstage, the singer, 25, said that as she moved her left hand across her face, she pushed her right hand upwards, towards Flash. “She’s there, she’s tall. I wanted her away from me,” she told the court. “I thought: ‘Do I get a choice in this? Hello?’ People are mad, people are rude.”
As if to emphasize the height differences, the 5′, 2½” Winehouse moved away from the evidence box and showed chief Magistrate Timothy Workman her flat pink ballet pumps. “And my hair does make a difference,” the often-beehived singer added.
Earlier, prosecuting lawyer Lyall Thompson told the court that there was “nothing accidental about Miss Winehouse’s actions. It may be that well-known figures find such requests tiresome, but they need to develop strategies” to deal with them. “She acted with deliberate and unjustifiable violence,” he said of Winehouse allegedly landing a “direct blow” to Flash’s face with her right hand.
Flash called the cops and later saw a doctor. She said she was left with a “slightly swollen” right eye after the incident. Flash told the court that she had been dancing at the event and then, later, went backstage with a friend to see if they could meet the Grammy-winner.
She said that she had not touched Winehouse. Asked by Winehouse’s lawyer Patrick Gibbs if she had “misread” the situation, Flash answered, “Even if I did, it doesn’t give someone the right to punch me in the face.”
Flash, who admitted she was “tipsy,” described Winehouse as seeming “drunk.” Other witnesses concurred, with Jack Jefferson saying of her performance earlier: “Her speech was slurred and she didn’t appear to be in control of her physical actions.”

So Amy’s defense is essentially that she didn’t punch Sherene Flash but that she used her right hand to push her away. She also seems to be arguing that as a much smaller person, she felt physically intimidated by the way Flash was so close to her. The problem is that other witnesses saw Amy punch Sherene Flash. She also headbutted a photographer at the same event. And not a paparazzo – an official photographer for the fancy ball. She was also described as extremely inebriated – no eyebrow raising here.
It seems likely that Amy perhaps intended merely to push away Sherene Flash and may have felt that’s what she was doing. But most likely she was drunk and clumsy, and really did punch her. Nonetheless, it seems unlikely she’ll do any serious time (the max would be six months). I’m guessing she probably will be found guilty, but be given some kind of nominal probation. And to her credit – Amy hasn’t physically assaulted anyone in
months.

After a crazy marriage with arrests, public arguments and apparently major drug abuse, Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil’s marriage is now over. Read more on this story below.
The Associated Press reported that Amy Winehouse, 25, and Fielder-Civil, 27, were not present when a judge granted the divorce petition at a Family Court hearing. Their divorce becomes final after six weeks and a day.
The couple met in a London pub in 2005 and were married in Miami in 2007. But much of their marriage they spent apart as Blake was arrested six months later for assault and went to jail.
Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, accused Fielder-Civil for introducing his daughter to hard drugs.
Winehouse was caught on video carving the words “I Love Blake” into her stomach with a shard of glass. The couple was known for thir Sid and Nancy type of love affair.
Blake was later arrested on charges of suspicion of attacking a bar landlord and attempting to bribe him to drop the charges. After Blake was in prison, Amy took it quite hard and was seen wandering the streets in her Camden neighborhood appearing very out of it.
Fielder-Civil was released from jail in February and then filed for divorce on claims of Winehouse’s infidelity. The AP reported that the divorce papers filed with the court stated that he found living with Winehouse “intolerable.”
Winehouse returned to England after several months of living on St. Lucia, where she is reportedly working on her comeback record to follow up Back to Black.

For those wondering what has this extended vacation in St. Lucia done for Amy Winehouse, here’s your answer: absolutely nothing. Winehorse’s first concert for this year was a complete bust: her traditional drinking binge was set in full motion, a hysterical breakdown on stage, and it was all mixed in with a disgruntled, booing audience.
Amy - who is currently staying on the Caribbean island as she attempts to overcome her problems with drink and drugs and write new material - started to sob before collapsing on stage amid the jeers.
One unhappy fan said: “Amy could barely stand up, she didn’t know the words to her songs. It’s a disgrace. She was so drunk she didn’t know where she was. She’s a lost cause.”
One insider told Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: “Amy was drinking heavily before the concert, she was really nervous about performing after so long.
“She is still very upset about Blake and was over-emotional. She is really disappointed that fans were booing her off stage.”
As I’d like to say, “You can bring a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink it if they find out it’s not vodka.”

Things are looking better for Amy Winehouse both physically and personally. Her jackass husband Blake Fielder-Civil has filed for divorce, which is good for Amy whether she realizes it or not. And she is looking absolutely fabulous. She just returned to London after taking quite the extended vacation in St Lucia.
Not only has she put on some much-needed weight, but she is no longer a ghastly shade of pale. As the Daily Mail points out, she even has some light freckles on her face. Her hair is all cleaned up and newly behived and her clothes are clean. Amy’s also back to her signature ballet slippers, but this time there’s no blood on them. Miraculous! She looks like the Winehouse of two years ago.
After a relaxing two month holiday in the Caribbean, Amy Winehouse is looking healthier than she has done in years. Spotted near her new home in Barnet, Herts, the singer appeared to have lost the pale, gaunt look she sported for the majority of last year.
Showing off her lightly sunkissed legs in a black mini-skirt, the 25-year-old star’s face was covered with freckles from her recent stay in St Lucia. Despite her healthier demeanour, Amy has reverted back to one of her old habits - buying sweets. With her female bodyguard in tow, Amy drove to a newsagent near her new Barnet home to indulge her sweet tooth. At the height of her drug addiction last year, the Rehab singer was regularly spotted leaving her local corner shop in Camden in the middle of the night clutching bags full of sweets.
After sporting her natural short, curly hair in St Lucia, Amy is again wearing her signature beehive extensions. Amy returned to London on Sunday after an extended vacation in St Lucia, during which she took part in various sporty activities, including gymnastics, aerobics and horse-riding. A long dose of sun and exercise has clearly done the troubled star the world of good.
With her face now looking fuller in the cheeks and covered with light freckles, Amy has lost the pale and spotty complexion she sported last year. Considering how long Amy spent on the island, she is looking less tanned than expected, prompting speculation the wayward star was sensibly applying sun lotion to protect her skin from sun damage.

Amy no longer appears like someone who screams “drug addict” just by looking at her. I’ve learned to be cautious about saying it seems like she’s turning things around, because every time I do, she manages to fall off the horse again. But this is the best I can remember her looking in a long, long time. She’s just so… hygienic!
Obviously Amy looks healthier than she has in the last year, but what I’m most amazed by is how put-together and clean she appears to be. There is nothing about her that makes you think she’s been rolling around in the mud or tromping through gutters. Hopefully she’s not doing all this in an attempt to win back Blake, but instead because she’s moving on with her life.

Amy Winehouse isn’t just spending her time in St Lucia stealing cocktails and playing on the trapeze - she’s also hanging out at the beach. While there she rescued a woman suffering minor injuries after a boating accident.
Louise Williams, 39, was having a sailing lesson in the Caribbean when she was thrown out of her boat by a 6ft wave. The Brit landed painfully on rocks near where former heroin addict Amy was relaxing with a pal on her St Lucia break.
The singer dashed to Louise — who was lying in agony at the water’s edge and in danger of being swept back into the sea. She helped her up and guided her to a beach shower, where the singer cleaned her cut back.
Grateful Louise said: “I was bowled over by her kindness. She went out of her way to help me.”
Amy, 25, told The Sun about the drama last week, saying: “I thought she was going to drown.”
Louise, an admin officer of Plymouth, Devon, said: “A six-foot wave caught the boat and I went flying and hit a rock.
“Amy was on the beach 20 metres away and she ran across immediately and said, ‘Let’s have a look at you.’
“She picked me up and took me across to the showers and was constantly asking, ‘Are you all right?’”
The Rehab star then washed the gashes clean, ran to get fresh towels and wrapped her in them. Later Amy posed for a snap with Louise, looking proud.
The Sun
I think it might be stretching the truth to call this an act of heroism, but more an act of common decency. It’s true the woman could have drowned, but it’s not like Amy ran David Hasselhoff style into the surf, risking life and limb, before pulling her back to shore and giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Amy simply helped the obviously jarred and shocked woman up from the waters edge and took care of her until she regained her composure. Still, it was a damn nice thing to do, and many people would have just continued on their holiday. Particularly a famous person who might be trying to have some privacy and avoid drawing attention to themselves. Good job Amy!
Still, there’s a tiny part of me that is imagining being thrown from a boat, dazed and confused, and being confronted by the sight of Amy Winehouse coming to my rescue. It’s a great mental image. On that note, in the picture taken by Louise with Amy, she looks much happier and healthier than she does in the many paparazzi shots of her vacation.
