Alec Baldwin considers running for governor of Ohio

July 6th 2009 by Holly in Alec Baldwin, Celebrities Comments Off
fp_2050380_baldwin_klein_ny Alec Baldwin has admitted in the past that he’s considered going into politics, and apparently the desire is still there. Baldwin, a staunch liberal, has received offers of help from all sorts of folks, and says he was recently approached by a law firm in Ohio that wants him to run for their state’s governor.
Alec Baldwin, a regular Huffington Post contributor, has been talking about running for political office for years now. It seems he’s still considering switching careers someday. “The desire is there,” Baldwin said in an interview with Playboy magazine this month. Last year, Baldwin told CBS’ 60 Minutes that running for office is “something I might do one day.” He was even more candid in his latest comments. The “30 Rock” star said that an Ohio law firm has already contacted him about a gubernatorial run, and he added that he would “love to run against Joe Lieberman.” Playboy: Will you run for office? Baldwin: I’ll put it this way. The desire is there; that’s one component. The other component is opportunity. A law firm in a liberal Democratic bastion in Ohio state politics sent me a binder with a cover letter that read, “Mr. Baldwin, here’s who we represent, the kinds of cases we handle, our credentials in Ohio state politics. We want you to move to Ohio and run for governor. We will launch your career.” Playboy: Could you live in Ohio? Baldwin: I have sometimes thought I could move to New Jersey or Connecticut and run. I’d love to run against Joe Lieberman. I have no use for him. But it’s all fantasy. I’m a carry-me-out-in-a-box New Yorker. Here, anything can happen. Who thought Eliot Spitzer would go down the way he did? Senator Hillary Clinton left to serve as secretary of state. Two of the biggest forces gone. Maybe Andrew Cuomo will run for one of their old seats. How much longer will Chuck Schumer stay as senator? After 2013 Bloomberg will be gone. What happens then? Do I run for Congress on Long Island? What’s Tim Bishop going to do? He represents my district. People get sick, die. They’re offered lucrative deals and want to cash in and make money for their retirement. People misstep. Unfortunately, an opportunity for me may mean bad things for someone else. I don’t wish that. If he does decide to enter the political fray, however, Baldwin says his competitors will have a plenty to use against him. PLAYBOY: Did you turn down any (SNL) sketches for being too outrageous? BALDWIN: Probably a few. It’s hard to remember. I’m often asked if I think about going into politics. If I do, these guys will have a field day. I’ve given them so much crap to use against me… I’m thinking, If I run for political office, they’ll have a forest of material to kill me with.
[From the Huffington Post] I think Baldwin is right about the forest of material. As much as I normally admit to liking the guy, I think it’s just because of how much I adore him on “30 Rock.” He’s got a legendary temper that can lead to fiery dramatics. Great for reporters, but I doubt he could actually get much done politically unless he could tone it down. Big egos are common in politics so I don’t really think that would hurt him – but you’ve got to earn it, and though actors have obviously gone into politics before, I’m not sure that Baldwin could make the transition. Update: This post previously had photos of a man that the photo agency claimed was Alec Baldwin. The photos were not Baldwin and have been replaced. Alec Baldwin wrote about feeling suicidal in “A Promise To Ourselves.”

September 20th 2008 by Chelsea in Alec Baldwin, Celebrities Comments Off

Alec Baldwin revealed that he felt suicidal after his voice mail to his daughter was leaked. Baldwin, the star in “30 Rock”, said he was ashamed when his voice mail calling his daughter Ireland a “rude, thoughtless, little pig” was leaked.

Baldwin wrote about this incident in his book, “A Promise To Ourselves.” He confessed that he considered suicide. He claimed that he left his voice message in a fit of anger because he had great love for Ireland. It was his love for her that prevented him from doing the foolish thing like committing suicide.

Since then, he has apologized profusely for his rant and his inconsiderate behavior. He blamed his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, for causing him distress over visitation rights with Ireland.

Alec Baldwin’s a dick

Alec Baldwin has a temper Rare photo of Alec not chewing After he was nice enough to give her the first interview about his divorce memoir A Promise to Ourselves, Diane Sawyer had the nerve to keep Alec Baldwin waiting because she was at the hospital tending to her husband after his silly heart surgery. I swear, some people. A source told the New York Daily News:
“Diane’s people couldn’t believe how angry Baldwin got. She was running back from the hospital!” (Source)
You mean the guy that called his daughter a “thoughtless little pig” actually lost his temper with somebody? The shock! I’d be more surprised if the source revealed that Alec sat down with Diane and had had a reasonable conversation . . . without his mouth full of cake . . . or without him skewing every answer  to be about his love of bacon.

Alec Baldwin suggests you get drunk under the Staten Island Ferry

June 21st 2008 by Holly in Alec Baldwin, Celebrities 0
Alec Baldwin is a supporter of PETA, and gave a really interesting speech to a group of their supporters recently. A speech I’m assuming is supposed to be ironic or funny or make you think… but doesn’t entirely come off that way in print. On Wednesday Alec hosted a screening of Blinders for PETA. The documentary film shows the cruelty behind New York’s horse-drawn carriages.
Actor Alec Baldwin has urged visitors to New York to ditch the city’s famous horse-drawn carriages - and get drunk and take drugs instead. The native New Yorker claims the vices are as valid a “tradition” as the carriages, which he claims are cruel to the horses forced to pull tourists around Manhattan. Speaking at a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals event in the city on Wednesday, Baldwin told WENN about the traditions he took part in during his youth in New York: “I walked through Union Square on my way to acting class and got offered loose joints. Drug dealing was a great tradition in this city. “There are other traditions people can get involved with in this city. When I was younger, I used to get a bottle of wine and get drunk under the Staten Island Ferry… so there are things like that you can do.”
[From Showbiz Spy] If you imagine him saying that last line as Jack Donaghy, it’s freaking hysterical. I hope a video surfaces. PETA president Michael McGraw clarified that Baldwin was definitely joking. He was pointing out that there were other traditions in New York that weren’t decent, and most people wouldn’t considering participating in most of those. Though to be fair, I have gotten drunk under the Staten Island Ferry. So drunk, in fact, that the whole ferry looked like it was painted a blindingly bright orange. Here’s Alec at the PETA hosting of the screening of ‘Blinders’ in New York City on Wednesday. Images thanks to WENN.
